Maintenance contracts for lifts and escalators

If you are responsible for lifts, escalators or both in a building you either own or run you should have a maintenance contract. In terms of the safety of an elevator or escalator you should have these contracts but also in terms of value for money they are a good idea. If you have no maintenance contract then you are taking a gamble that the elevators and escalators will have no problems. If they do them there are firstly safety issues, a bad accident could of course tarnish your reputation and lead to you being sued especially if you are found to not have maintained the machinery in question sufficiently. Even if there is no accident even if it is just a software glitch then you have a expensive bill to pay to get an emergency repair done without a maintenance contract. Maintenance contracts if you don’t use them for any breakdowns and just have routine maintenance may seem bad value but if you ever did need some major work done then they would suddenly seem very good value. Most maintenance contracts include labor and parts and a call out service is included if the elevator or escalator you have ever does break down: for lifts especially this is essential and you need to get people stuck in lifts out quickly.
