Periodic maintenance of lifts is necessary. A scheduled maintenance drill conducted at regular intervals of time can ensure that the lift does not cease to work at any point of time. It is always better to have a maintenance contract in place so that a contractor services the lift periodically.
An ideal maintenance drill must include the following elements:
1. Run the lifts from the first floor up to the last floor. Notice as to how it stops and starts at each of the floors.
2. Make sure that the doors/gates open and close appropriately at each of the floors. If it doesn’t, it must be serviced immediately.
3. Proper lubrication in the machinery is crucial. All the parts must be well lubricated.
4. Check the oil level if it is at the required level or not.
5. A part that is not properly functioning should be serviced immediately.
Areas that need special attention are: shaft equipment, wiring, brakes, ropes, safety measurements, control circuit and mechanism and floor selection monitor.
Although, all lifts and elevators are more or less similar and thus, require similar maintenance check-ups but hydraulic lifts require something more. Thus, it is better to have an experienced professional servicing the hydraulic lift than a regular maintenance man.
