Escalators and lifts were invented to provide comfort to people in moving up and down between floors of a high raise building. Although, they do provide the much needed respite, but sometimes, they often cause injuries to people. The primary reason for such unfortunate incidents is malfunctioning of the elevator/ escalator machinery due to poor maintenance. If the machinery is not maintained properly and serviced regularly, it is bound to malfunction and create problems for the users. In order to help you understand the gravity of the situation, here are a few common malfunctions that cause injuries to people:
1. Closing of doors: An elevator door can close quickly if its motion sensors are off/ malfunctioning. This can result in getting clothes/limbs caught in between and may lead to minor bruises or major injuries such as fractures etc.
2. Mid-air breakdown: An elevator can break down while moving in between floors. This can result in people getting stuck up in the lift for long hours.
3. Snapping of cables: Lift cables can snap unexpectedly if they haven’t been replaced/ serviced lately. This is a dangerous malfunction and it can lead to major accidents as severe injuries or even death.
